Devers National Hispanic Heritage Month Day

Let's learn about Hispanic heritage.

#
Note: This event has already passed.

Youth will play a trivia game of trying to name all the Hispanic Flags from a templet that will be in the Computer Lab. We will also watch two videos, one about Mexican Dancing, and one informational video about Hispanic Heritage Month. At the end of this event, we will play a game of BASTA! Youth will also get a chance to make horchata and churros.

BASTA: This fun game is a great way to review vocabulary, verbs, any concept you have studied with your students! It's very easy and requires almost no prep work. It also introduces fun competition and easily keeps students engaged. The game requires students to be paired up (or work in pairs against other pairs) and can be used with large classes or smaller classes. Students each get a sheet with a grid to record words in different categories.

The categories are: un verbo, un sustantivo, un adjetivo, un nombre español, cualquier cosa. The teacher calls out a letter and gives students 30 seconds (or more) to come up with a word in Spanish for each category that begins with the designated letter. You can modify the categories to fit any lesson that you are studying. When time is up, the teacher yells "Basta!" and students total up the number of correct words that they wrote down. The partner with the most words wins the round.
