Barr Memorial Library Presents Lilo and Stitch!

The 2025 live‑action remake retells the core story of the original film while expanding character arcs and adding new emotional layers. The plot follows Experiment 626, a genetically engineered alien created for destruction, who escapes Galactic Federation custody and crash‑lands on Kauaʻi, Hawaiʻi. Mistaken for a dog, he’s adopted by Lilo Pelekai, a lonely, imaginative girl struggling to stay connected with her older sister Nani after the loss of their parents.

As Stitch hides from alien pursuers Jumba and Pleakley, his chaotic behavior threatens the sisters’ fragile home life, already under scrutiny from social services. But through Lilo’s fierce belief in ʻohana—family—Stitch begins to change, discovering empathy and belonging. The live‑action version deepens themes of grief, identity, and cultural grounding, while introducing new scenes and character beats that diverge from the 2002 film, including a more complex ending centered on balancing family bonds with personal growth.
