Lifeguard Training Class

Earn your lifeguard certification from the American Red Cross. Our lifeguard certification courses are designed to ensure that you are properly trained and prepared in the event of a water emergency.

This comprehensive Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and AED class will prepare you for employment as a lifeguard. PLEASE NOTE: These are blended learning classes. You will get a link for the online portion of the class after the pretest.

All participants must pass the prerequisite skills evaluation, which will be held on November 13th from 12pm to 1:30pm.

Prerequisite skills include:

  • 300 yard continuous swim (front crawl/breaststroke)
  • two minute tread (using legs only)
  • a timed brick retrieval event*

*Timed event consists of swimming 20 yards, retrieving a 10 pound object from a depth of 7 - 10 feet, surfacing with the object, swimming back to the starting point on your back with your face at/near the surface and both hands on the object, and getting out of the pool with out the assistance of a ladder/steps, all within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

Once you pass the pretest:

You will then be given a link with the online classes that you complete at home.  All online content must be completed prior to the Nov 19th class and participants must show proof of completion.

Classes will take place on Saturday and Sunday November 19-20 8am to 5:30pm.

Gammon Pool Participants must attend all classes and successfully pass skill tests and a written exam in order to be certified. Any class conflicts must be discussed with the instructor and approved prior to class.

Certification is through American Red Cross and is valid for two years. Please note:  Failure to complete prerequisites will result in a forfeiture of $50.00 of the course cost.

Registration Information

Register in person at Anderson Indoor Pool or online. 

Proof of age is required on the first day of class in order to verify eligibility. Must be 15 years old by the last scheduled day of class in order to participate. 

All classes will be held at Anderson Indoor Aquatics Center. Class size is limited to 10 participants. The registration deadline is November 13.
