One of Us Is Lying by Karen McManus is a story about a group of four high school students who are suspects in the mysterious death of a fellow student, Simon, who dies from an allergic exposure during detention. The novel is set in Southern California and explores themes about the corrosive impact of stereotyping and gossip, the value of empathy, and the impact of family relationships on adolescents coming of age.
